Albrecht Dürer is one of the few watercolour markers whose colours are named after traditional painting pigments: phthalo blue, cadmium yellow, indanthrene, sanguine, cobalt green. This is not incidental: an artist familiar with watercolour tubes or dry pastels can apply their usual colour mixing knowledge directly on paper without having to learn a new colour naming system. The ink reactivates on contact with a wet brush and produces translucent washes with a chromatic depth close to tube watercolour, making it a particularly effective tool for outdoor work or rapid field sketching. Themed sets, portrait, warm and cool greys, plein air, or sketch, provide an immediately coherent palette for a specific practice. Buying individually then allows the palette to grow by targeting exact shades, in the same way one would add pans to a watercolour box.
